Dandelion & Daffodil

Meet Dandelion & Daffodil! These 2 sisters were part of the Maniwaki rescue and were surrendered along with their numerous siblings. Although they are still a bit hand shy, they love attention, are calm, love to explore and enjoy cuddling with their cage-mates. They appreciate lots of out-times and like to come visit their foster mom while they are busy running around. Snapdragon & Bepop

Meet Bebop and Snapdragon, two boys closely bonded that came from different situations. Bepop was at a shelter, living in a tiny hamster cage for 3.5 months and was in danger of being euthanized for a respiratory infection. Thankfully, they allowed Rachel to take him and introduce him to some desperately needed friends and a healthier living environment. One of the friends that helped him come out of his shell is Snapdragon. Snapdragon is very brave and eager to please. He is often found p...

Spirit

As a rescue we spend a notable amount of time on Kijiji. This is for a variety of reasons – to intercept people looking into pet rats in order to encourage them to adopt, to identify breeders, and, of course, to identify and rescue rats that are put on Kijiji as a way of discarding them when children have lost interest or the rat has gotten sick. We can’t always save them all. It comes down to operational needs and we are often put in a position where we are at capacity and unable to take in ra...

Wilma

Wilma was a sweet old girl who was part of the Mascouche breeder surrender. She was aged and came to the rescue with a large tumour and a respiratory infection. Despite rounds of antibiotics (she was too ill to undergo surgery to have the tumour removed), she eventually passed away and joined so many other friends across the rainbow bridge. We are happy, however, that in her last weeks of life she was able to know so much love and care.

Cleo

Cleo was one of 6 rats we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to rescue from a Gatineau pound who was not properly set up to care for rats. She has since blossomed into one of the alpha rats at her adoptive mom Karen's home and is soaking in all the love and attention a rat could ask for along with her two other cage mates.

Elly & Ingrid

It can be said that Elly (left) & Ingrid were a pair made in rattie heaven. Both of these older girls had lost their previous cage-mates and were lonely. They accepted each other almost immediately and now live in a spacial Critter Nation together. Their mom is a loving parent who not only dotes on them, but will go the extra mile to make sure her girls are healthy and happy. Elly was definitely one of the lucky ones - she lived to a ripe old age of 3.5 years!

May

Little May was named after the month she was found. Believe it or not, she was found in a small cardboard box in a Tim Horton's parking lot. An employee at Tim Horton's went out for a break, and noticed the box sitting out back. We're so glad she looked inside! May now lives with other ratty friends and still has a bit of a wild girl attitude.

Fosters Needed

Could you help a friend transition to a new family? We are happy to note that we are becoming more well known in the Ottawa and surrounding areas for our work rescuing rats. However, with this recognition comes additional calls, emails, and referrals from people who either have or have found rats that are in need of our assistance. This has lead to our resources being stretched thin. We are in need of additional foster homes to give incoming rats a safe place while we help place them in fo...
