Ella & Spirit

Ella & Spirit

Can you tell these two extremely bonded girls are sisters?

Ella and Spirit are never far from each other, whether awake, or sleeping. Both girls are extremely friendly and outgoing and would make wonderful pets for anyone who would enjoy spending time with a pair of lively girls. They love to explore and sometimes… they make a mess while going about their antics. Neither are very interested in cuddling, but they love to run all around and over their humans and are not hand-shy at all.

If you have a warm place in your heart for a pair of beautiful girls, please fill out an adoption application!

Danny & Bailey *special needs*

Danny & Bailey *special needs*

Meet brothers, Danny and Bailey. You won’t find a more friendly, more outgoing pair anywhere!

As you can see from their photo, they are always fighting for affection and it is pretty much a race to the door any time you walk by. There is nothing cuter than the way they perk up and come running out from their various play areas to come meet you at the door!

Danny is currently on antibiotics for a severe Respiratory and Urinary Tract Infection. He seems to have responded to the medication well and has finally put on some weight. However, since his infection was left untreated for so long, we will be looking for a family who will be able to continue this course of medication for another month and potentially even long term as this may become a chronic issue. Both boys are about 1 year old.

If you are looking for a pair of licky, bouncy boys, look no further! Please fill out an adoption application to inquire about adopting Danny and Bailey.

p.s. these two boys can also be adopted with their older brothers, Jack and Gus.

Jack & Alex

Jack & Alex

Jack and Alex are two brothers who came from a negligent family. They meant well, but unfortunately failed to provide for these two boys. They arrived at the rescue skinny, skiddish and visibly on edge, even with each other.

Both boys have now been with their foster mom for a month, and their transformation has been amazing! You almost cannot recognize them anymore. Gone are the scared, wary boys who arrived, instead, these boys are now relaxed, eager to socialize and very easy to handle. Of course, building confidence in previously neglected rats is always going to be an ongoing project, but with the love and care they are currently receiving, they just need a home that can provide consistency and unwavering love. As of Jan. 2017, they are an estimated 14-17 months old.

To inquire about adopting Jack and Alex, please fill out an adoption application.

Gus & Jack

Gus & Jack

Meet brothers Gus and Jack. Even though they showed up covered in fleas with extremely thin, sparse fur, these boys were friendly as ever and always ready to give kisses.

At 20-22 months old, they aren’t exactly young, but don’t let their age put you off. These boys are still full of energy and have so much love to give. Jack (left) has an old eye injury that has left a white film over his eye. It does not bother him at all and he does not require any special treatment or care. Jack absolutely loves to give kisses and is probably one of the easiest to pick up and cuddle. He just relaxes his whole body and is content to be carried around.

Gus is a little bit more active, and loves to sniff things and explore. He’s easy to pick up as well, but is a little more restless in your arms. Both boys are absolutely bonded to each other and spend a LOT of time cuddling with each other and grooming each other. Quite often, Jack ends up on his back, belly up, feet in the air while Gus uses his chest as a pillow. Yes, they sleep like this and it is the sweetest thing you will ever see.

These older boys are looking for a family who understands what their needs are right now and what their needs will be in 4-6 months. Please feel free to contact us to discuss adopting these boys, or if you are an experienced rat-parent who is ready to dive in, please fill out an adoption application.

p.s. these boys can also be adopted with their younger brothers Danny and Bailey.

Celeste & Diana

Celeste & Diana

Meet Celeste and Diana, both so sweet and curious and just joyous to have a second chance.

These sisters were surrendered by a well-meaning person who unfortunately found herself unable to keep her pet rats. After spending a few weeks with our experienced foster mom, both are now extremely outgoing and can’t wait to climb onto your shoulders or hands. They love to interact with their humans and you can bet on them to be right there at the door any time you walk by.

Celeste is a very pretty grey and white colour and is slightly more outgoing than her sister. Diana absolutely loves her hammocks and will often be found lounging in them, completely awake, but just happy to be suspended in the air, looking down.

Both girls are estimated to be about 8-9 months old. They are very good with their litter box and so far, hasn’t chewed up any hammocks!

To inquire about adopting this bonded pair, please fill out an adoption application.

Lilia & Shelby

Lilia & Shelby

Lilia & Shelby are adorable baby sisters who really don’t need an introduction. Their mother was left to fend for herself on the streets, but was thankfully captured and brought to the rescue before she gave birth.

They are typical friendly, bouncy babies, and are looking for a wonderful home, together!

Please note, although they are tiny and cute now, please only apply to adopt if you are looking to commit to their happiness and well-being for the next 2.5-3 years.

If you’re ready to dive into rat parent-hood, please fill out our adoption application form.
Please note, Lilia & Shelby can also be adopted with Annabelle & Gwen.

Gwen & Annabelle

Gwen & Annabelle

Gwen and Annabelle are a sweet mother-daughter pair with very similar personalities despite how different they look. Gwen was left to fend for herself on the streets, but was thankfully captured and brought to the rescue before she gave birth. Annabelle was born at the Rescue, and her carefree attitude simply can’t be dampened.

They are typical friendly, bouncy females, and are looking for a wonderful home, together!

If you’re ready to dive into rat parent-hood, please fill out our adoption application form.

Please note, Gwen and Annabelle can be adopted with Lilia & Shelby.

Joy & Molly

Joy & Molly

Joy and Molly are almost opposites of each other.

Joy is a little crazy, super outgoing, brave like she’s 7 feet tall (even though she’s actually tiny, even for a young female rat!) and is the most vocal rat we have ever heard in our 4 years as a rescue. She takes every opportunity to escape, and hands? Hands are just platforms, to be used at leisure when adventure is on the horizon! We seriously can’t say enough wonderful things about the busy-bee that is Joy. Oh, and did we mention, she’s a bit of a drama queen. Any time her foster-sister Molly even approaches her for some gentle grooming, Joy shrieks like she’s being attacked (she’s not…). She always succumbs to the grooming, and we’re pretty positive she enjoys it, because Molly is absolutely a gentle older sister.

Molly is quiet, cautious, and definitely not adventurous. She’s nervous about hands and being handled in general, but she is very curious, and once she gets to know you, she will always come up to the door to say “hi”. There’s something very serene and calm about Molly which makes us believe she may be a little bit older.

Both girls are an estimated 7 months to 1 year old.

Joy currently has 4 bald patches because she had 4 nasty abscesses that had to be cleaned surgically. But she has recovered 100%, and soon, her fur will be completely grown back.

To inquire about these sweet, fun girls, please fill out an adoption application.

Rufus, Neil & Riley

Rufus, Neil & Riley

Meet Rufus and his two sons, Neil & Riley. These three boys (along with their mom and sister – Chico and Picco) were dumped at the SPCA Montreal when the babies were just newborns. Considering their rough start to life, they have adjusted remarkably well!

Rufus (black) is every bit the responsible dad. He’s the most anxious and wary of the three, and you can just tell he’s warning his boys not to trust humans too much (just yet!) But we are working hard every day to gain his confidence. His two sons on the other hand, are much more outgoing and friendly. All three can still be a little skiddish, especially around loud noises or quick sudden movements, but they are making improvements every single day. The two babies love being up on shoulders (Rufus, not so much).

These 3 boys are looking for a perfect home together where their new family will continue to help them grow, play, and learn to appreciate life with humans.

To inquire about Rufus and his sons, please fill out an adoption application!

John Smith & Flynn Rider

John Smith & Flynn Rider

Meet John Smith and his brother and best-friend, Flynn. The two are pretty much inseparable and like to get into all sorts of trouble together. Quite often, I find them guilty and covered in dirt, digging up my houseplants together. Other times, they climb up on an empty cage, even though they know they’re not supposed to be there, and then they end up stuck and need help getting down. Both boys are about 6-7 months old and are almost done growing.

John Smith is the albino, and is the slightly more outgoing of the two. Flynn Rider has the most beautiful dark grey colour, and tends to keep a little more to himself. These two boys still act like they don’t want to be picked up, but in reality, they don’t put up much of a fight. They keep running up and backpedaling, but once you have them out, they are so happy and carefree and are not shy at all.

These two boys will become big squishy and cuddly boys in no time. To inquire about adopting John Smith and Flynn, please fill out our adoption application.

Chico & Pikko

Chico & Pikko

Meet Chico and Pikko, an adorable mother-daughter pair who are extremely bonded and would like to find a loving home together.

Chico and Pikko were abandoned at the SPCA Gatineau along with the father rat and several other babies. Having never had a decent loving home, both girls were extremely nervous and scared, but after spending a month with our experienced foster-mom, both have made incredible progress.

Both are curious, and despite their fear have never bitten or even nipped. Both are still a little weary of being picked up, however are now comfortable with being stroked in the cage and are willing to come up and take food from your hands.

We will continue to update their status, but for now, they are looking for a family who is willing to take the time to socialize and teach these girls to trust and love.

To inquire about these girls, please fill out an adoption application.

Jacob

Jacob

Sweet Jacob has come a very long way and anyone who meets him now would never guess that he used to be a terrified, aggressive rescue from a hoarder. Estimated to be just over 1 year old, Jacob has been neutered, properly socialized and now just wants a home with 2 or more female rats and a human lap to call home.

Although it will take a week or more for Jacob to warm up to you, once he does, he is the perfect cuddle-buddy and fellow couch-potato. He loves to just lay on your stomach or on your thigh while you do your thing. He closes his eyes and leans in to get gentle head rubs once in a while, and is SO polite that if he needs to relieve himself, he’ll actually have the courtesy to hop off!

Jacob needs a calm home with a consistent schedule and no rough handling at all. He still spooks easily and can very quickly become that terrified quivering rat. The good news is, it is now quite easy to coax him back into calmness.

Jacob is a very special boy who is looking for that perfect human guardian. He would absolutely love to live with girl rats who will pamper him and help boost his confidence with their outgoing nature.

We absolutely WILL NOT adopt him out as a single rat, so please only apply if you have female rats already at home, or are willing to adopt 2 female rats from us.

Jacob’s adoption fee is $100 to help cover his veterinary costs. Please contact us for more information.

Gaston & Chias

Gaston & Chias

Meet Gaston and Chias who were abandoned by a “feeder breeder” in Toronto. Thankfully, our good friend Alex offered these brothers – and TWENTY TWO other rats – a safe home until they could be transferred to the Rescue in Ottawa. Gaston is brave, outgoing, and definitely wants to be the boss. His right hand man is Chias, who gives as good as he gets. These two are the most friendly and are looking for a home where they will be allowed to have lengthy out-times to burn off all that excess energy.

Both boys are about 4.5 months old as of April 2016.
Considering they came from an environment where they had no human interaction, these babies have become socialized remarkably fast. Ideally, Gaston and Chias are looking for a home where their confidence will continue to be nourished.

To inquire about these adorable brothers, please fill out our Adoption Application.

Meeko & Fleek

Meeko & Fleek

Meeko and Fleek were transferred to us from the SPCA Outaouais.

These boys were abandoned at the SPCA in a cardboard box when they were only about a month old. Now, they are 5 months old and flourishing under the love of their foster mom. They are very good shoulder-riders, and while both are still a tad nervous about being picked up, they don’t put up much of a fight. Once they are out and about, they love climbing up on you, and checking in to see what the human is doing.

These bonded boys are looking for a home that will be calm, and willing to continue working with them to give them the second chance at life all rats deserve. With just a little attention and love, they will continue to flourish into happy confidence rats!

To inquire about Meeko and Fleek, please fill out our adoption application.

George, Franklin & Lucas

George, Franklin & Lucas

Meet George, Franklin & Lucas (left to right), three babies who were lucky to be saved and to meet each other.

Lucas was born when a pet store sold his pregnant young mother as a pet. Since she was a baby herself, she only gave birth to 3 little ones and he was the only boy. The girl who purchased his mother decided she could not keep him and so brought him to the Rescue. Franklin and Lucas were going to become snake food, but after a series of fortunate and not-so-fortunate events, they ended up at the Rat Rescue. Since these 3 boys were nearly identical in size and age, they were introduced to each other and have been inseparable ever since.

George and Franklin are definitely slightly more shy and tend to freeze on the spot if anything scares or startles them. They need someone who will continue to be gentle with them and to properly socialize these two babies over time. Once accustomed to their surroundings, they are just as crazy and bouncy as other babies. Both these boys are still test nibbling fingers as they clearly haven’t had much exposure to handling or people in general.

Lucas on the other hand is a tiny bouncy ball. He will chase his adoptive brothers and entice them to play with him. Lucas is daring, curious, and you can just tell he will grow up to be a troublemaker.

These 3 bonded boys are looking for a home where they will have plenty of room to grow and learn. They would prefer a home without young children as they are too small and delicate to be handled roughly. To inquire about adopting these boys, please fill out our adoption application.

Toby & Ben

Toby & Ben

Meet Toby & Ben. Probably the most adorable, active, puppy-like rats you will ever meet. When Toby and Ben are excited to see people they will drop everything and immediately run to the door. They are great for being picked up or held and are free to run on the ground because they come immediately when called.

Toby (black and white hooded) is more eager to please, whereas Ben is a tiny bit more independent and will sometimes play hard-to-get.

Both boys are about 4-5 months old and are looking for a home where they will get at least 1 hour of free-range time every day. They need a large cage with lots of stimulation to keep them from getting bored and destructive.

Do you think you have the room in your home and heart for these lovely boys? If so, please take the time to fill out our adoption application.

Pipper & Charlie

Pipper & Charlie

Meet Pipper and Charlie. These two sweethearts didn’t get much love or attention in their previous home where it seems like they were rarely handled. Pipper (agouti) arrived with a pea-sized abscess on her throat which has now been resolved and 100% healed. She is definitely the slightly more nervous of the two girls. Charlie is slightly more outgoing, and much more easily coaxed out with food and gentle words.

Both girls still have a ways to go and are looking for a caring, understanding home where their new family will patiently continue to help them gain confidence.

If you think these girls could be the perfect fit for you and your family, please fill out our Adoption Application. Thank you!

Judith, Seyla, and Olympe

These 3 carefree baby girls are looking for that perfect home and human family. All three are extremely friendly and outgoing. Olympe was originally purchased from a pet store, then surrendered by her previous human.

They are always eager for out-times and love using humans as a jungle gym to climb onto and give kisses. Sammy (the hairless girl), is easy to handle but loves to explore her surroundings while you dispense treats to her. Ebony doesn’t enjoy being handled as much but loves the treats just as much!

Orion, Prancer & Dancer

Orion, Prancer and Dancer are a trio of adventurous and brave brothers looking for a loving home together. All three boys rush to the door of the cage when you walk by and can’t wait to come out to play. They are part of a group of 21 rats rescued on Christmas Eve 2014. Orion is definitely the most confident and out-going of this band of brothers, while Prancer is the most reserved and Dancer fits right in the middle!

It is adorable to watch these 3 boys cuddle and love each other. How could you not want these boys in your life?

As of November 18, 2015, these boys are just under a year old.
