These tightly bonded girls were surrendered to the SPCA in Gatineau because their previous owner wanted to euthanize them after they got lice. Thankfully, the vet refused, and referred them to the SPCA. Due to their poor chances at the SPCA, these girls were transferred into the care of the Ottawa Pet Rat Rescue.
After 6 months with the Rescue, the oldest girl, Blossom, unfortunately finally succumbed to her illness and with careful consideration and support from our vet, she was put to sleep to end her suffering and rapid decline.
This leaves 2 year old Lexie and 1 year old Jackie who are now looking for that perfect home.
Lexie has now had two successful mammary tumor removals. And you would never even guess that she was sick! She loves to be active, to explore, and to accept treats from her human. Jackie is so full of energy, she would happily run around for hours at a time if you let her! Both girls are so incredibly friendly and social.
Due to their large age difference, Lexie and Jackie are looking for a home where they will be joining another group of female rats or neutered males. They need an experienced home or one that will carefully introduce Lexie and Jackie to their existing rats.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us, or if you are sure you have the perfect home for these girls, please fill out an adoption application form.

Rest in Peace, Blossom.

Meet these 3 adorable boys who are friendly, well-socialized, love to interact with their humans and are all-round, just perfect rats.
Coco (beige and white) is definitely the leader of the three. He is mister independent and takes it upon himself to be alpha and to keep the others in line and safe. Papi (brown dumbo) is probably the most chill and cuddly of the three. He’s relaxed, he’s happy to get cuddles, food and lots of naps. Finally, we have tiny little Chaton who is a few months younger than the other two. He’s definitely the most reserved, but he does well when his older brothers are around.
These 3 boys are looking for a loving home together.
If you are interested in giving these sweeties a loving home, please fill out our adoption application form.

Meet shy but friendly and curious Harvey. Transferred to us from the Bramptom SPCA as part of an eviction/seizure, Harvey was originally living with his brother, Remy. Unfortunately, they started fighting non-stop, and as a result both boys had to be neutered and separated.
Now several weeks after his neuter, Harvey and his brother still aren’t getting along, so we decided that it would be best for Harvey to find himself some girlfriends instead.
Estimated at around 10-12 months old, Harvey is looking for a home with an existing female rat (or rats!) so that he can make some new friends and find someone to cuddle with.
If you are interested in adopting Harvey and have female rat(s) at home, please fill out our adoption application form.

Meet this trio of sisters who had a rather interesting start to life, but are now looking for that perfect family to take them in. Nydia (hairless), Azumi (beige) and Haven (black) are estimated to be bout 10 months old. Their previous human unfortunately had to give them up due to health issues, but overall, kept these girls healthy and relatively well-socialized.
Of the three, Nydia is the most friendly. She will happily be picked up, and climbs right up into your arms! Azumi, is just a little more shy. She’s not too sure about being picked up, but she’s actually quite sweet and curious, in a shy kind of way. Haven is unfortunately the most skiddish of the three. She’s quite scared about being picked up, and the only place she feels comfortable is up on your shoulder, or NOT being touched at all. Of the three, Haven definitely requires the most work an patience.
Thankfully, all three girls will be with one of our experienced fosters, and hopefully with time, and love, Haven will come around.
These sisters must be adopted together, as a trio.

Earl & Bernie are two sweethearts whom we estimate are 7-10 months old. Although they are not brothers, they were raised together and get along just fine. Despite being so much smaller, Earl is actually the slightly more dominant one and is often spotted grooming his much bigger friend.
Of the two, Bernie is more laid back and loves people. He will lick your fingers and spend his entire time running around on you or near you. Earl on the other hand is a little bit more reserved. Though he may be considered shy, he’s still very curious and has shown that he does have a playful side to him, specially when you tickle his head.
Both boys are very gentle when taking food and tolerate being picked up and held, although being held for more than a minute or two is definitely not on their list of favourite things to do. (Way too busy for that!)
If you’re interested in adopting Earl & Bernie, please fill out an adoption application form.

Meet brothers Peregrin, Meriadoc & Bilbo who were born Dec. 30, 2019 and are now looking for that perfect forever home.
These babies were born at the Rescue and have been handled since day one. They are extremely friendly and sociable.
Since they are still so young, whoever adopts them must be willing to invest in a large cage, a lot of time and love to continuing raising these boys as brave, friendly and healthy rats.
Little Bilbo, who was the runt of the litter, seems to have a large bald spot due to one of his brothers barbing him. Although it may look a little strange, this doesn’t actually harm the rat being barbered and little Bilbo certainly doesn’t seem to notice. We’re still not sure which of his brothers exactly keeps doing this to him, but so far, there have been nothing but snuggles and brotherly affection between them.
If you think you have what it takes to be the perfect rat guardians, please fill out our online application form. Please note, these boys can be adopted with their brothers.

Meet brothers Aragorn and Gandalf who were born Dec. 30, 2019, as well as their adopted little brother Richmond who is estimated to be about 2 months old.
All three of these boys are extremely friendly and sociable having been handled since an extremely young age.
While Aragorn and Gandalf were born at the Rescue, Little Richmond was originally going to be snake food, but thankfully, a kind lady rescued him and brought him to us. Richmond was infested with lice and had a respiratory infection, but after treatment, he is now parasite-free and just dealing with the occasional sneeze.
Since they are still so young, whoever adopts them must be willing to invest in a large cage, a lot of time and love to continuing raising these boys as brave, friendly and healthy rats.

Things really didn’t start out well for Georges. Originating from a hoarder seizure in Brampton Ontario, Georges came to us very aggressive and biting every hand that tried to touch him. He was also missing half his tail and had fresh bite wounds all over his tail and rear.
Once at the Rescue, the first thing we did was book him a neuter.
Now, about 3 months in, the neuter has done it’s magic and you almost can not recognize the same rat anymore.
George is now a bouncy, happy, friendly, LICKY rat who would much rather gently groom your fingers than bite anyone! He’s always waiting for us to come open his door, and he will even stick his little paws through the bars if you walk by his cage.
Georges really needs a home where he will be joining an existing group of female rats. Preferably ones who will cuddle with him, and play with him when he feels like it.
If you have the space and the right home for this sweet boy, please fill out an adoption application form.

It’s been a long road for both these sweet hearts, but it feels like they may finally be on the home stretch.
Little Betsy was unwanted snake food abandoned at the SPCA, while Joker was found in a box on the side of a highway with 22 other rats. Now, the two of them are finally bonded and ready to go to their forever home.
These tightly bonded girls are estimated to be about 1 year old. Although they have been passed through several homes, miraculously, they have remained extremely friendly, social and loving. Bell and Lily are two perfect little girls who are still young enough to actively seek their human out at every opportunity, but just mature enough that they are very calm and so very easy to pick up and handle.
Both girls seem to recognize their name and will come running to you when called. They love humans, don’t mind being picked up at all and are always ready to come say “hi”.
They are discovering just how yummy fresh foods like fruits and vegetables can be, and are very quickly figuring out how to use their literbox. So far, they have nor chewed any of their hammocks or fabric liners. Don’t they just sound perfect?
If you’d like to apply to adopt these girls, please fill out an adoption application form.

This Mother/Daughter pair are about as perfect as rats can be. Minnie was part of a seizure done by the Brampton SPCA when they had to remove over 30 rats from a home. Unfortunately, she was already extremely pregnant and shortly after, gave birth to 7 babies.
Minnie herself is an extremely friendly and sociable rat. She loves people, their shoulders and especially treats. Her daughter Hazel is just as well socialized and is a miniature, grey version of her mother. She’s a little more shy, especially about being picked up, but is an adventurous, curious little nugget as soon as she’s out. These two are probably only about 2 months apart in age as Minnie was extremely young when impregnated.
They are looking for a loving home together where their human family will give them tons of attention and space to grow. Both girls are still developing.
If you believe you have the space, time, resources and love to give these ladies a home, please fill out our adoption application form.

Poe had a very rough start to life as he was found on the side of a road in a box along with 23 other rats. Thankfully, several rescues were able to step in and help save them. Poe is one of 13 males we took in from that rescue situation.
After months in our care, he has made incredible strides in becoming a well-socialized, relaxed rattie. Unfortunately, the one thing we have still not been able to find for him, is a friend. Poe does NOT get along with other males. He is quite dominant and despite being neutered back in May of 2019, he does still prefer to be the “biggest” rat around.
We are hoping to find a loving home for Poe with an existing group of female rats. Preferably 2 or more female rats. Poe is estimated to be between 10-12 months old.
If you are an experienced rat guardian and have a few females at home already, please consider giving Poe a chance and a home.
To inquire about Poe, feel free to email us using the “contact us” page or fill out an adoption application. Thank you!

Update: as of Oct. 1, 2019, Meryl has presented with a lump behind her right eye. Until we get a clear diagnosis and treatment from our vet, Meryl Eva will NOT be available for adoption.
Update: as of Oct. 4, 2019, confirmation that the small lump is a stye. Resolved via warm compress.
Meet sisters Meryl & Eva who will absolutely melt your heart. Both girls were born on Aug. 20th. They were the result of a pet store not separating their males and females.

Update: Orpinton was adopted with 2 other boys, Frizzel and Orloff instead! Fisher and Bantom are still looking for a home as a pair.
Meet this trio of brothers who will absolutely melt your heart. All three boys were born some time between Aug. 17 and Aug. 20th. They were all the result of a pet store not separating their males and females.
They have thankfully been very well cared for and socialized since birth, so all three are fairly outgoing and would settle into a new home very quickly.
Since these are boys, please remember that they are going to get BIG. Male rats can grow up to be a foot long from nose to tail. These three need to go to a home where they will be offered plenty of room, continued socialization and enrichment so they can mature into well-adjusted friendly boys.
The minimum case size we will consider is a Critter Nation. Please contact us for option.
If you would like to meet these boys or apply to adopt, please fill out an adoption application form.
