Update: Nov. 2, 2023 Unfortunately Bear developed both PT and a mammary tumor right by her groin. Due to these two issues, we attempted to first control the PT symptoms to keep her comfortable, knowing that her time would be limited. After two weeks with no improvement on cabergoline and Bear losing her appetite and mobility, we had to make the difficult decision to have her euthanized. These tightly bonded girls were surrendered to the SPCA in Gatineau because their previous owner wanted to euthanize them after they got lice. Thankfully, the vet refused, and referred them to the SPCA. Due to their poor chances at the SPCA, these girls were transferred into the care of the Ottawa Pet Rat Rescue. Sammy and Darla were abandoned at the SPCA in Gatineau in horrible condition. Sammy had scabs all over her body from lice that was never treated while Darla had a severe respiratory infection, a huge tumor the size of a ping pong ball in her groin and the lice was so severe she had huge patches of missing hair and inflamed skin.
