Stanley & Brando

Both boys were rescued by a kind lady in Kingston right before they were to become snake food. Stanley is much larger and very outgoing where as Brando is smaller and takes a little longer to warm up to you. Both boys are oh so sweet and really bask in any attention they get. Please do not let the fact that these boys are albino put you off. Fur-colour and eye-color are not an indication of temperament or personality. Just like other rats, these brothers are looking for a loving home of their...

Update: Spirit

On September 25, 2014 we took in a frail, thin, and very sick little girl. Quite honestly, we had fears that she wouldn't make it to October - but had resolved to make whatever time she had left with us as positive, loving, and nurturing as possible. This is Spirit today. She has exceeded all our expectations and has overcome so many obstacles. In the last two months and a bit we've watched her put on healthy weight and learn to trust humans, under the loving and devoted hands of Anita...

Spirit

As a rescue we spend a notable amount of time on Kijiji. This is for a variety of reasons – to intercept people looking into pet rats in order to encourage them to adopt, to identify breeders, and, of course, to identify and rescue rats that are put on Kijiji as a way of discarding them when children have lost interest or the rat has gotten sick. We can’t always save them all. It comes down to operational needs and we are often put in a position where we are at capacity and unable to take in ra...

Alvin, who always stands out, is the handsome tan boy, Simon is the adorable black boy with dumbo ears, and Theodore is black with standard ears. The three of them enjoy getting up to antics just like their namesakes. ...

We stepped in, taking 29 of the rats - including these two loves. As of November 10th, 2014, they will be available for adoption as a pair or...

SPCA Rescue Group

Over this last weekend a pet store went out of business. The pet store had rats - mostly as feeders, but also sold them as pets. When they closed their doors they had 66 rats - including many who were very, very young. The rats were all together - males and females. The store owner took all these rats and dumped them at the SPCA in Outaouais. They contacted us as they are not equipped to deal with the sheer quantity of small animals. As a result, we have taken in 29 rats - many of which are extr...

Ben & Rupert

Rupert was found running around outside and was rescued initially by Lisa. Unfortunately, one of her boys is a bit of a bully and did not accept Rupert. Ben is a tiny albino boy who was dumped along with his sister at a pet store just outside of Alexandria and was rescued by a woman named Adele right before the pet store owner was going to feed him to a snake. She realized very quickly that rats need a friend. She asked us for help. We took him in because we knew Rupert and he would be similar i...

Caleese

This little darling came to us from an intake pound called Auberg Zen in Laval QC. They give them 30 days at the pound. If they are not picked up by an adopter or another shelter, they are euthanized... She is so friendly, energetic, and brave! She loves exploring and getting into mischief - as well as visiting all the other rats in the rescue. She is also here to stay - she's managed to wriggle her cute little face deep into Rachel's heart, so has been given her forever home permanently with Ra...

Elly & Ingrid

It can be said that Elly (left) & Ingrid were a pair made in rattie heaven. Both of these older girls had lost their previous cage-mates and were lonely. They accepted each other almost immediately and now live in a spacial Critter Nation together. Their mom is a loving parent who not only dotes on them, but will go the extra mile to make sure her girls are healthy and happy. Elly was definitely one of the lucky ones - she lived to a ripe old age of 3.5 years!
